David Silver—the DeepMind researcher behind AlphaGo, AlphaZero, and MuZero—has launched Ineffable Intelligence with a $1.1 billion seed round at a $5.1 billion valuation, the largest seed round in European history. Sequoia and Lightspeed co-led with backing from Nvidia, Google, the UK Sovereign AI Fund, and DST Global among others. The company's thesis is that reinforcement learning—training AI systems through autonomous trial-and-error rather than on human-generated text—is a more viable path to superintelligence than scaling transformers. Silver has also pledged 100% of his personal equity proceeds through Founders Pledge, the organization's largest single commitment to date.
