OpenAI on April 22 introduced Workspace Agents in ChatGPT, Codex-powered agents that automate recurring multi-step workflows across teams and run in the cloud even when users are offline. The feature is available as a research preview to ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, Edu, and Teachers subscribers, and is free until May 6 when credit-based pricing begins. Workspace Agents are positioned as an evolution of GPTs, able to connect to third-party tools, maintain project context, and be scheduled or triggered by conditions—OpenAI's direct answer to agentic AI offerings from Google, Microsoft, and Anthropic.
