Blue Energy Raises $380M to Build Grid-Scale Nuclear Reactors in Shipyards

2026-04-21 01:05

Blue Energy has closed a $380 million equity-and-debt round led by VXI Capital, with participation from At One Ventures, Engine Ventures, and Tamarack Global, to build a 1.5-gigawatt light-water reactor in Texas using shipyard manufacturing, TechCrunch reports. The approach mirrors how Venture Global applied factory-built modular construction to LNG terminals, targeting a reduction in capital costs from roughly $10K/kW to $2K/kW and cutting build times from a decade to around two years. Construction is set to begin later this year; the company will transport completed reactor sections to site by barge.
