Amazon agreed on April 14 to acquire satellite operator Globalstar for $11.57B ($90/share) in cash, adding its 24-satellite LEO constellation and mobile satellite spectrum licenses to Amazon's nascent Amazon Leo business. The deal keeps Amazon as the provider of satellite connectivity for Apple's iPhone and Watch emergency-messaging features. Closing is expected in 2027 pending regulatory approval and completion of planned upgrades to Globalstar's constellation.
