Google DeepMind released Gemini Robotics-ER 1.6 on April 14, upgrading its embodied reasoning model with improved spatial understanding, multi-view success detection, and a new instrument reading capability that reaches 93% accuracy (versus 23% for ER 1.5). Boston Dynamics integrated the model into Spot's Orbit software via its AIVI and AIVI-Learning systems, enabling the robot to autonomously read pressure gauges, thermometers, and sight glasses during industrial inspections. The model is available to developers through the Gemini API and Google AI Studio.
